Basic life support should be taught in Schools
SADS is backing the BHF Campaign and Resuscitation Council (UK) initiative urging Emergency Life Support Skills to be put on the Schools National Curriculum. Teaching children ELS at school, will bring about a new generation of lifesavers who can act in the case of emergency.
SADS UK are delighted that Dr Lockey the Resuscitation Council (UK) lead for this campaign will be providing an update at the SADS UK Heart to Heart Conference on the 22nd October 2011 in London.

In 2009 SADS UK provided statistics of 270 cardiac arrests in UK schools each year.
Guidance from the Dept. of Education includes issues for schools consideration
A defibrillator is a machine used to give an electric shock to restart a patient's heart when they are in cardiac arrest.
Government should legislate to make defibrillators compulsory in all schools.
All schools should have sufficient defibrillators in prominent positions such that any person suffering a cardiac arrest can be reached within 3 minutes from the defibrillator location.
