SADS UK Heart to Heart Conference 2015

The Annual SADS UK Heart to Heart Conference will be held on 17th October 2015 at the Royal College of Nursing, 20 Cavendish Square London W1G 0RN, cost £30.

Learn more about SADS and inherited cardiac conditions, support and treatments available , as well as hear patient stories. SADS UK has received RCN Accreditation for this conference, with seven study points awarded for the day. Medical professionals can now use this conference as evidence for their Continuing Professional Development.

This conference will provide attendees with an understanding of cardiac conditions that can exist in seemingly healthy young people. Causes of SADS will be discussed; together with the identification, treatment and management of patients who are at risk, or have suffered sudden cardiac arrest; in both prevention and emergency care situations.

Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome (SADS) and cardiac conditions which can lead to SADS is a worldwide concern. The management and treatment of patients affect healthcare workers worldwide. SADS UK works in collaboration with the SADS Foundation in Utah and the Canadian SADS Foundation to work with charity members affected by these conditions and form best practise. In collaboration 'The Warning Signs' to help identify patients  at risk were developed with the aim of prompting people who recognised these signs to seek expert medical advice.

Professor Nigel Wheeldon Consultant Cardiologist at the Northern General Hospital , Sheffield will start the day with an overview of inherited cardiac conditions associated with Sudden Arrhythmic Death. Professor Wheeldon has a lot of experience in this area. He is the President of the Association of Inherited Cardiac Conditions which is the UK national professional body of experts dealing with Inherited Cardiac Conditions. Patients living with cardiac conditions will speak about their experiences and life after diagnosis.

Research into SADS in centres around the country and the  medico-legal aspects of dealing with relatives of people who have died from Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome will be discussed.

The importance of early CPR and defibrillation will be presented. The SADS UK Big Shock Campaign which aims for Government to legislate that all schools should have Automated External Defibrillators in place, as well as working with schools to put this lifesaving equipment and training in place.

Dr David Pitcher, the Vice President of the Resuscitation Council (UK) will provide details of the new international resuscitation guidelines that are being published a few days prior to the SADS UK Heart to Heart Conference.
